Spanx
Spanx are the revolutionary control pants that were the brainchild of Sara Blakely. Tired of having lumps and bumps spoiling the flow of her clothes she wanted to create a smooth silhouette which the material could glide over. They make you appear slimmer and toned without being uncomfortable or restricting - a revolution in concept and design!
The first pairs of wonder panty hose hit the shelves in the year 2000. The footless tights were an instant success picked up by the major US stores like Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, women across the United States were discovering what it meant to wear their clothes with confidence and comfort.
Sara and her Spanx
Sara fed up with wearing underwear that gave her lumps and bumps under her clothing one day back in 1998 decided to cut the feet off her tights to create a smooth silhouette underneath her cream trousers and the idea for Spanx was born. She got her Spanx idea patented that same year; it was a further 2 years before she managed to convince a manufacturer that her idea would be a great product for women not just a wild idea. With a fantastic product Sara went off in search of buyers, she happily gave them a personal demonstration of the before and after results, this campaign acquired her some big companies agreeing to stock her products including Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman.
After being discovered and endorsed by Oprah Winfrey in 2000 on her show as one of her favourite things the only way was up. Over the next couple of years the range expanded in pants and a new maternity line so by 2002 Sara had moved the offices out of her apartment and hired a CEO for her company that now had 11 employees. That same year she won the Ernst and Young entrepreneur of the year award.
Over the next few years the company continued to grow in both employees and in products available meaning that people of all ranges and all over the world are enjoying supportive comfortable underwear and hosiery.
Material Matters
When Sara set out to create Spanx she wanted to give women a smooth silhouette but without compromising on comfort therefore the fabric that Spanx are made from is one of the main reasons for their success; they are made from a Nylon and Lycra mix that gives them a soft comfortable feeling.
Traditional control pants have often been rigidly structured and restricting whereas Spanx are soft and allow the wearer comfortable movement whilst smoothing and supporting, this makes them the ideal solution to everyday confidence not just for special occasions. The Spanx range is designed to be worn under all styles of clothing from slinky dresses to a pair of work trousers due to the variety and flexibility of the styles available.
