Anita
Anita is a Germany-based specialist lingerie manufacturer that develops underwear offering comfort, luxury and fashion in equal measures. Anita is one of the leading companies in the production of beautiful, graceful underwear for specialist purposes - like nursing wear - and also of comfortable and supportive everyday lingerie.
The History of Anita Lingerie
Anita is a strongly family-based company. In fact, the current proprietor, Georg Weber-Unger, is the great-grandson of the company's original founder Ernst Max Helbig who founded the company in Dresden back in 1886. At this time, more than 120 years ago, Anita was involved in the production and popularisation of elastic braces, and it proved successful. They had immediately created a reputation for quality construction and excellent materials; a reputation which would define them for the next century and beyond.
By 1910, Anita had expanded into the design and manufacture of corsets, followed by orthopaedic garments and supportive trusses which were comfortable to wear - helping to kick-start a revolution that would change the way women's clothing was considered. The new ranges grew more and more successful, and by 1930 Anita's workforce in Dresden had stretched to around 350.
Anita's growth continued right up to the Second World War, but the company was utterly devastated in 1945, when a joint British-American air raid laid waste to the city of Dresden. Once peace had again returned and taken root in Europe, Anita quickly began rebuilding all that they'd lost. By 1946, just a year after the end of the war, Anita had reopened and refitted much of the burned out machinery. Anita began again to flourish.
By 1990 and the reunification of Germany, Anita had moved into the production of more specialised products, like nursing bras, maternity panty girdles and post-mastectomy bras. Anita suddenly found that it had the economic freedom it needed to boom after reunification. And that's what it did. Over the next 15 years, Anita would open for business in 15 new countries; an impressive rate of expansion by any measure. Anita now had a strong (and constantly strengthening) position in most major European countries, in China and the Far East, and in America. With the coming of age of the internet, there's now no limit to Anita's reach.
Anita Nursing Bras
With its long legacy of manufacturing lingerie and underwear of the very highest quality, Anita's maternity bras are at the leading edge of nursing underwear. Anita totally understands the rigours and intensity of pregnancy, and their research into postnatal lingerie has helped them to become one of the luminaries of their industry.
Their maternity lingerie moulds to the wearer's anatomy, which ensures a secure and effortless fit. What's more, they're extremely easy to use and can help the breastfeeding process become simpler. The materials used in the construction of Anita's maternity bras have been chosen for their qualities of being comfortable and forgiving against sore skin, and for being supportive and practical as well as supportive.
Maternity Bras
Rigby & Peller are proud stockists of Anita's feeding bras. These are beautiful items, which flatter and support with real sophistication. Available in a clean and powerful white or a profound and sultry black, these bras are lightly adorned with lace trims and subtle embroidery, yet retain a sense of simple elegance. And they're as comfortable against your baby's skin as they are against your own.
Alongside the excellent nursing bras, Rigby & Peller stock a selection of post-surgery bras - proof positive of Anita's commitment to beautiful specialist underwear. These bras are designed to be used with breast prostheses, offering support and comfort to women who have undergone mastectomies, lumpectomies, reconstructive surgeries or breast reductions. The strength and support that these bras offer can also be useful for women with particularly heavy busts.
Breast Prosthesis
Anita manufactures a number of natural and subtle breasts prostheses, each one designed for a different stage of recovery. There's a textile prosthesis, made from a skin-friendly, air-permeable micro-fabric, which is designed to be worn after a mastectomy until the surgery has healed. After this time, there's a light prosthesis which has a naturally skin-like covering and a fabric back for comfort, and a fully silicone prosthesis, which moulds to the wearer's body, restoring their natural contours and offering natural movement and physical interaction. We only stock these prostheses in store, not online, because they require an experienced lingerie fitter to size them, so please get in touch if you'd like to arrange a fitting.
Using their expertise and experience in creating subtle, natural bras, Anita also design and make a selection of everyday bras that offer exceptional comfort and support - but make use of only subtle (or totally absent) embellishment to maintain their invisibility under the wearer's everyday clothes. These robust and functional bras are available up to larger sizes, the Twin ranges measure between a B and an F, and the Support Bra and the TopComfort bras both go up to a H.
